Plane to AFRICA

KR and AP are excited to discover an elephant on the plane from Australia to Africa.

Oh my, there are leopards too. We watched an in flight movie about the animals of Africa and we're all set for a safari.

Hooray, we're off the Africa. Can't wait.
Peanuts (or groundnuts, as they're called in Africa) were our in flight snack. Yam chips too. I don't think AR likes the food.

Did you see that?!?

We begin our journey in Nigeria to learn more about the people of Africa and then on the Kenya and Tanzania to find out about the animals. Our tickets all had a picture of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. We are so excited to learn about a new continent.

Great Barrier Reef

We are choosing photos and writing the names of animals that live in the Great Barrier Reef to add to our passports. Which one would you choose?
More students writing down their Great Barrier Reef favorites.

Sugar Pop

We built an Australian home for Sugar Pop, our guinea pig.
I think Sugar Pop likes kangaroos.

FFA Petting Zoo

KR hugging a bunny.
AR is getting a close-up look at the quail a high school student is raising to train his bird dog. Sh... don't tell AR! She thinks they're cute.
This rabbit is being raised by BH for meat. It's gigantic!
BE holds the bunny close.
JM takes LP for a ride on her horse, Special.
Hey, look at this BIG pig.
RB and AP admire the bummer calf. A bummer is a calf without a mother so it has to be fed with a bottle.

Senior Project

We love the baby goats. LN planned and put together the petting zoo for all the grade school students. It was her senior project and we had a great time visiting all the animals and getting to see the new school farm. In this picture she is showing the girls one of the baby goats.
Whoa...
QD, well on his way to becoming a cowboy.
RB riding Special.
LP loves the baby goats.
The goats ran away from us and we finally caught them with a little help!
CO and KB in the pig pen with the piggies. KB says, "Look at his curly tail"!
BE liked the cows and quail too! CO thought it was funny when the goats ran away. KB liked the sheep and BT liked the billy goats. BT got mud on his hands from the pig! QD thought it was funny that the big goats had bald heads. RB loved riding the horsie. AP's favorite animal was the horse and AR liked the pony. KR liked holding the baby bunny rabbit and LP thought the baby goat was best! As you can tell, we had a great time visiting the school farm. When can we go back?

Dissecting Squid

Look at this... it's a squid.
Look how carefully BE is cutting open the squid. He looks just like a scientist. Our fifth grade science buddies helped us with each step in the dissection of our squids.
CT and KB look closely at the squid's beak.

The Squid

Can you identify the eye, tentacles (there are only 2), arms, chromatophors (freckles), fins, mantle (that's the part of the squid we tasted)? Where is the beak? How do squid protect themselves?
HS is walking JD through the first and only cut when dissecting squid.
I think I can see the beak, if you squeeze it, it will pop out. The beak is black and looks just like a bird's beak.
Isn't this interesting... RB and KW inspect the squid's beak. The only part RB didn't like was when the squid's ink squirted on her forehead!

READ to ME

BT's Dad reads aloud in kindergarten.
Can you see the delight in his face?

Mr. G talks to us about the wonderous fish we might catch in McElligot's Pool.
We had a special visitor. CO is helping his mom hold the big book, Together. We love it when our parents read to us!

Let's Build!

The boys build a fantastic block tower.

Our Favorite DR. SEUSS books

Even ZD likes Dr. Seuss!

KB loves Green Eggs and Ham but does he eat them, Sam I Am?

Guess who likes The Lorax?

Can you read with your eyes shut?

Happy Birthday, DR. SEUSS

It's Dr. Seuss's birthday and we're celebrating. BB is busy reading There's a Wocket in my Pocket! In kindergarten we brought our favorite Dr. Seuss books, flashlights, and wore our pajamas for a fun filled morning. We read, read, read!
