PUMPKIN CARVING

AH is our high school aid and she comes to kindergarten every morning. The kinders love her! She's helping the girls clean out their pumpkin. There's excitment in the air!
CJR helps carve pumpkins in kindergarten. JN shows the seeds he found while NP continues to get more out!

KG cleans the ooey-gooey guts from the pumpkin!
The boys watch from a safe distance!
Seeds for growing and tasting!
More seeds...
KS loves the mess! AH ignores her and keeps right on carving.
Now, it's time to carve the face. The boys are back to help and tell KG what they want their jack-o-lantern to look like.

TD and NP tell CJR exactly how they want their pumpkin to look.

What's inside?
We carved our pumpkins on Wednesday, October 27th. Look for this pumpkin every Wednesday - we're going to see what happens to it over time. What do you think will happen?
TRICK OR TREAT...

COWBOY COOK-OUT

Mr. McBride played music at our cook-out! Mr. McBride we love you!
We enjoyed the music of Mark Stratton Lost Creek Road.
CR's family is looking over all the different kinds of chili. Yum!
"Would you like some cornbread to go with that chili?"
NP and his little brother dig right in!
EH and her mom are enjoying the evening.
Yum... cowboy cookies made especially by Mom!
Kindergarten girls at the cowboy cook-out. What did you have for dinner?
Cowboy JM.
"Oh, that chili tastes great!"
Linda Myers performs her rope tricks (a flat loop) for an appreciative crowd.
Author Nancy Attebury reads aloud around the campfire with help from Joan Madsen, illustrator of 'Twas the Night Before Round-Up.
Kindergartners, first graders, and their families gather around the campfire.
Families listen to the K-1 students perform the "Cowboy Story". Oh my!

'Twas the Night Before Round-Up

Author Nancy Attebury reads aloud from her book 'Twas the Night Before Round-Up during her visit to Cove School.
Illustrator Joan Madsen shows a photograph of the bucking shoots at the Pendleton Round-Up so we can compare it to her illustration.
This is a "dummy" of the book, 'Twas the Night Before Round-Up. The illustrator makes a dummy of the illustrations in a book, the words are added, and then the final work is done on the published book.
Nancy Attebury and Joan Madsen are sharing some of the actual artwork from their book.
LE and AP enjoy the flying horses!
CR, LP, and CH carefully examine Joan Madsen's artwork.
"Look at this one! I love the flying horses!"
FR shows the painting to all of us.
"Look at that. I like this one!"
Look at the horses fly over the round-up grounds. RB and MR enjoyed the visit from the author and illustrator of 'Twas the Night Before Round-Up.
TM and NP get an autographed book!

Sugar Pop

Meet Sugar Pop, our classroom guinea pig. He loves it when we build forts, castles, and mazes for him. He is 1 1/2 years old and love to eat carrots and lettuce. We just discovered that he likes strawberries too.

Columbus Day

CKT is making Columbus's ship - he's using an apple for the boat and marshmallows for the sails.
The girls show off their ships!

Columbus would have sailed far in this ship.
Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. On October 12th he landed in the Bahamas. He thought he had reached the Indies so he named the natives "Indians", but what he actually had found was a land he had never heard of before.
Here's a close-up view of NP's Columbus Day ship. It looks good enough to eat!
