Painting Saguaro Cacti

JM paints his saguaro. It is only 50 years old - not old enough to grow arms!

JN finished painting his 100 year old cactus. It has 2 arms and is old enough to grow flowers and fruit.

JM is busy painting his 100 year old cactus.

The clean-up crew!

EASTER GRASS

Look how much our Easter grass (wheat seeds) grew over the weekend.
FR and LE are excited show you their baskets.

Snake Gourds

We planted snake gourd seeds on March 29th. They are just now starting to pop up through the dirt.

Hmmm... looking good.

CR is happy - his seeds have sprouted!

Artist George Perrou

Artist George Perrou visited Cove and shared his painting techniques with the kinders and first graders. He was here for 1 week and everyone got to enjoy his art. Be sure to stop by the high school and see the mural he did outside the music room. It's AWESOME!

George shows our students how he uses an exacto knife to cut the shapes he wants to use. In this demonstration he cuts clouds, birds, and trees.

Here he is cutting another bird.

After painting, George pulls the tape away and voila - there's a cloud!

This is the painting we all got to work on. If you'd like to see more of his work go to http://www.atomicnest.com/ or http://www.studioperrou.com/ or watch an OPB Art Beat video at www.opb.org/programs/artbeat/segments/view/755

We listened carefully while George talked about his art.

Kindergartners Research Cacti

LE gets some help with her research on the ocotillo.
That's a organ-pipe cactus on the screen. MH and AH told us that organ-pipe cacti have white flowers that bloom at night.
Can you see all the different photos of jumping cholla? JN and JM get help with their research from a Cove High School student.
Computer lab cuties!
The covered wagon makes a great place to write your boojum tree facts.
EH begins her research on barrel cacti with help from KK.
