Corn on the Cob

We started by shucking the corn over in the field for our chickens. Mrs. VanNice says that the chickens will like to eat the husks.

Churning Butter

We all got a chance to turn the handle on the butter churn to make butter. It's hard work!

Our butter... we put the butter on our corn on the cob. It was delicious!

Pioneer Bonnets

The first grade girls all watch as JD's mom sews a bonnet.

Grandma Laura sews FR's bonnet. The girls each picked out the fabric that they wanted for their own pioneer bonnet. We will wear our bonnets on our Oregon Trail walk.

Everyone is excited about watching our helpers sew.

Coon Skin Caps

TD cuts out his tail for his coon skin cap.

NP carefully follows the pattern to cut out his cap's tail.

JL concentrates as he watches CK cut his fur fabric - it's not as easy as it looks.

Nice cap - what a tail!

We like them!

Egg Gathering

The kindergartners are gathering the eggs on the school farm each day. These girls both found an egg! The chickens are getting very good at hiding them from us!

Kevin Boylen

Kevin Boylen is a local glass artist. He is showing kinders how to make a glass tile. Each child got to make their own tile with Kevin's help.

We watch and listen carefully as Kevin sprinkles powdered glass on a tile.

CM helps kindergartners sprinkle glass powder over their stencil.

CR chooses a leopard stencil.

NP directs CM as they make a glass tile together.

Kevin Boylen helps CK as JL looks on.

MAY DAY

This May Day we were part of a patriotic celebration!

The boys...

and girls...

Planting Petunias

FR chooses a perfect petunia to plant.

TD digs a hole for his petunia.

BI and NP work together - they measured to make sure their hole was deep enough for their plant.

SB can plant even with a broken arm!

Everyone is busy working to make this the best May Day planting ever! We liked the senior colors because we found many shades of pink petunias. Be sure to notice them later this summer as the plants grow and bloom.
