Panama Canal

We set up our classroom like a cruise ship and traveled through the locks of the Panama Canal.
These students all have their tickets in hand.

Watching a YouTube video of a cruise ship going through the locks.  It's very interesting to see each lock fill with water until the ship is at the same level as the next lock.

Now the boys are checking out a magazine that's all about the lemurs of Madagascar.
The African island of Madagascar is our destination.

Comparing notes...

Look chameleons!  Did you know that the largest and smallest chameleons in the world both live in Madagascar?

Squid Dogs

GD adds really loooong tentacles to his squid dog!

EW has many short tentacles.

Our school cook, Margaret, cooks our squid dogs for us!  Yum!

RC and KM are lovin' it!

Slu-u-r-r-p!

How to make a squid dog:  cut a hot dog into thirds, add spaghetti noodles, boil, and EAT!

I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean!

I'm bigger than a manatee!

We read 2 books by Kevin Sherry - I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean and I'm the Best Artist in the Ocean.  We loved them!  Next we made our own giant squids and decided on an ocean animal that is smaller than a giant squid.  We came up with lots of great ideas!

I'm bigger than a whale!

I'm bigger than a sea snail!

I'm bigger than a sea turtle!

I'm bigger than a star fish!

I'm bigger than a whale shark!

I'm bigger than an octopus!

I'm bigger than a firefly squid!

I'm bigger than a jellyfish!

I'm bigger than a crab!

I'm bigger than a dolphin!

MAY DAY Fireflies

Here are our K-1 fireflies the night of the May Day Program.  It was so much fun - all of our fireflies had blinking antennae, glow-stick necklaces and bracelets, and flashlights.  It was an amazing display when the lights went out in the gym!

Ocean Alphabet

First grade and kindergarten fish faces!
You can now see our finished Ocean Alphabet - find it on the kindergarten home page!  It's AWESOME!
