CHRISTMAS Activities

We made a tree map about Santa. Kindergartners generated words that finished the map - Santa is... Santa has... Santa likes...

During math we graphed our favorite candy cane flavor. Which one did most kids like? Watermelon. Our least favorite was cherry.

Kindergartners each made an elf - this one is Sam and he belongs to KM. After our elves were finished we made their "To Do" List. Our elves were very, very busy taking care of things at the North Pole!

Santa visits Cove kindergarten and first grade - here RM and GD get up close and personal with Santa!

RH got a letter and a candy cane from Santa!

JS did too!

Naughty and Nice

Can you find your favorite "naughty" face? We had lots of fun making faces for the snowflake ornaments we made for our families. One side of the snowflake had our nice face and the other side our naughty! We're a fun bunch and I'm sure everyone was on Santa's nice list this year!

Stone Soup

It's time for stone soup... bring what you've got! Put it in the pot! We're making stone soup!

Add some potatoes...

Carefully peel them...

Dice them nice and small...

RH cuts some apples for the fruit salad!

Careful, don't drop the crescent rolls.

Another batch... enough to feed our first grade friends, our fifth grade science buddies and US!

Shake that cream, come on... keep shaking! It's turning into butter.

The MAYFLOWER

JS helps to stake out the outline of the Mayflower. It was 24 feet wide by 90 feet long. The height of the 'tween deck (where most of the Pilgrims stayed) was only 5 1/2 feet. 102 Pilgrims stayed in this area for 65 days.

These boys got their tickets, #97 was a child and #9 was one of the crew members on the Mayflower.

Kinders and first graders show their tickets!

Mr. Patton tells us about the Pilgrims - there were 50 men, 18 women, and 34 children. One baby was born aboard the ship and he was named Oceanus.

Here are two of the 30 sailors on the Mayflower.

By the time the ship came into Plymouth Harbor, it was winter. The crew and passengers had not had fresh food in several weeks. The cold and damp, along with their poor nutrition caused many people to get sick. That first winter half of the crew and half of the passengers died. Of the 50 men, 27 died. Of the 18 women, 14 died so the first Thanksgiving was tended by only 4 married women. Of the 34 children only 10 died. It is believed that the mothers gave up their food so their children would survive.

Did you survive?

LB and AT told us that the Pilgrims came to America so that they could worship God in their own way.

The 132 Cove students learn about the real people that came to America aboard the Mayflower in 1620.
